Last night we started the 6 week class on “The Power of Intention”. One of the things we discussed was how our limiting beliefs will prevent us from moving forward in our lives. They are the undercurrent that keep sabotaging us. They are unseen but visible in how they play out in our lives.
Let’s say you want to increase your income. But nothing you do allows that to happen. You get a job where you expect double pay on over time and suddenly the over time drys up. You take another job with more money and suddenly everything begins to break down at home and any extra money you have is now spent. You keep getting slammed right back to where you always are. What is going on?
We all have a ‘glass ceiling’ on how much we allow into our lives. Love, money, happiness, physical fitness, weight etc. It has to do with self value and it has to do with our limiting beliefs.
On one hand we are saying how much we are looking forward to having more income for projects, travel, etc. but if on the other hand we have a steady current of thoughts that are spinning an energy web of lack…….things won’t change.
Thoughts of ‘Nothing every works out for me.” “No matter how hard I work, I never get ahead.” ” Wealthy people are arrogant and entitled.” on and on. If we have those thoughts running underneath our “I want to increase my income” we will be hard pressed to do so. Things will keep occurring to keep us from moving forward.
The first thing to do is to notice what you are telling yourself. Or what you find yourself nodding your head in agreement with. Likely that these are some of your limiting beliefs.
Start making a list of them. You may just have a few but they act like an umbrella over much of your life. Or you could have a negative of lack in one part of your life but not in another. For example you might make friends very easily and feel a sense of abundance in your social life but never move forward in your work situations. Different beliefs in different areas of your life.
So as you begin your list of limiting beliefs look at the different areas in your life………where they play out and where they do not.
Once you know what they are and where they surface you can be on the lookout for them. You can do some journaling to discover where and when they first showed up. You can consider the health of the person who perhaps planted these seeds in your mind. You may begin to notice they are not even really true. You may notice however that when you do believe them that you behave in a different way than if you did not.
Again, just reading these words are not helpful. It is in taking the practice and time to do the reflection that you will find value and begin to create a shift.
Sometimes these shifts occur easily. Sometimes they are ‘sticky’ and take concerted effort to break free from.
If you feel stuck, you can be certain you have some underwater beliefs that are holding you back……m
