I had a profound experience within just a moment on my morning walk. I have had pictures here of a path up a snowy hill where I walk in the mornings. I will put it on here again today. Two days ago when I walked I could see that someone else had walked up the hill on “my path”. Up until then, my feet had been the only ones walking the path for sometime. Today as I was walking down the path I saw someone bundled up as much as I was trudging up the hill. I recognized him from a couple of earlier fall walks when there was no snow. This is a young man that we would call “special needs”. He had shared his name with me in one of those earlier encounters but I don’t even remember it. As he drew close, I said to him, “Oh, it is you and I that are making this path through the snow! I thought it might be you!” He was close to me then and had a big smile on his face and we “high fived” each other.
As we “high fived” he gently wrapped his hand around my hand for just a moment. It was a profound moment. As I said this is a young gentleman who we would call “special needs”. But what I felt through the hand connection was the energy of a strong, confident loving and supportive human being……almost fatherly.
In a moment it was over. We really had not even stopped moving it just happened quickly. But it touched me deeply. Perhaps I was the one with “special needs” of needing to feel the touch of a strong, confident, loving and supportive human being. It was grace in a moment.
There are moments of grace in so many unexpected places. The more open we are to be present in our environment, the more that we are present to receive them.
We never know when these gifts in our lives will show up but truly they are everywhere. This week take note each evening of these moments of magic and grace that have found you during your day. I believe that the more we are aware of them the more that will find their way to us. And hopefully we can be a moment of grace for someone else.
I love the magic of life………deep blessings to you all, melanie
