Hello dear readers!! I am so grateful that you take the time to read these words. My intention is that they inspire and encourage you to live more mindfully each day in this precious life that we have been given……..
The pause that refreshes. Sounds like a bumper sticker, doesn’t it?
How often do you pause during your day to refresh yourself? Your body? Your mind? Your spirit?
There seems to be a popular mantra circling the planet which goes like this, “I am so busy, I am so busy, I am so busy, I am so busy………….”
Sound familiar??
There are certainly chapters in our lives that keep us moving dawn to dusk………small children, starting a new career, transitioning to a new home, starting a new relationship, etc.
Life is full. When people say, “Wow, I didn’t have time to do that homework, I was so busy last week.” I think, “And who in this class was not?”
I am a big advocate of having a Daily Practice where we take 30 minutes (or more) each morning to “refresh” ourselves. * ** But there is also great benefit of taking “small moments” several times throughout the day as my teacher, Paul Cutright, suggests .
The energy of a day has a way of sweeping us away in its relentless current unless we are internally mindful and create ways to “pause” and stay connected to our own spirit.
There is a difference between “going with the flow” of a day and being “tossed and turned” by the varying tides that move through our days. A pause helps us remember who we are and what our intentions are.
When we are internally connected and living a life guided by intentions we have a guiding light.
And so we pause to remember, to connect. The pause is just that……a pause, a breath. It is small, seemingly insignificant but even a drop of water can cause a ripple. And they have an accumulated effect.
What would a pause look like? Maybe a long deep noticed breath that fills us from the top of our head to the tips of our toes. Perhaps a luxurious stretch finding length in our spine after being bent over a computer. Maybe a moment to take in the beauty of a summer flower. A conscious connection with our inner voice. Or a conscious connection with the Infinite. Be creative but keep it simple.
Nothing to do or fix……….just pause.
You get to decide. Let it be simple, small and seemingly insignificant. Just remember to do it several times throughout your day. At the top of each hour. Each time you notice yourself beginning to have a sense of worry or anxiety. Every time you want to go and enjoy another piece of chocolate………..
Pause………..and be refreshed.
Much love, melaniej
