2012 is just around the corner. It is a year that has garnered a lot of speculation. It is said that it will be an “auspicious” year. A year of great beginnings and many shifts.
Irregardless if this is true or not, a New Year always brings a sense of hope, expectation and a chance to begin again. It is the perfect time to pause and look back at the months behind and to look forward at the months to come. We are able to live our lives with greater intention if we know where we have have been and have some idea of where we are headed. If we look back we can see what has been working for us and know that we need to keep putting attention in those areas in much the same way. If we see areas that have not worked out well we will know that we need to change direction or perhaps drop the plan altogether. Looking back helps us step out of our self -made loops. We can remain blind or in denial for long periods of time if we do not stop and take a close look.
I myself have been doing this for a number of years. I like to write down my intentions for the New Year. I say it is taking the old ritual of writing down New Years Resolutions up about 10 notches. I have several different ways I work with my intentions and it is always fun to see at the year’s end all that have come to be.
One of the challenges in doing this kind of work is that it does take some time. This is one of the reasons that I created my New Year’s workshop, “Creating Mindful Intention for the New Year”. We take one full hour to look back at 2011 to review all the joys and the challenges and then take the second hour to be in the energy of 2012. Where do we want to place our energies, our intentions? What will that look like? How do I need to show up to make that happen?
Writing things down is a powerful tool. It seems to set the power of thought into motion. It gives energy to that which we are thinking.
This will be the 9th year of my workshop “Creating Mindful Intention for the New Year”. It will be held at Sun Moon Yoga Studios in Mankato, MN on Saturday, December 31st, 5:00-7:00 pm. Cost is $40.
Please join us. Some people make this a yearly event to begin their New Year with a sense of greater purpose. Bring a notebook to do your written work. You may want a new notebook to work with these intentions for the year.
Let me know or just drop in. If you can’t make it, set some time aside with yourself or with family or friends and create this work for yourself. You will feel empowered as you connect and honor your deeper needs and desires.
This is my prayer, that you will continue to take time for your own personal development, your relationships and finding your unique dharma in life. Love and light be yours in 2012 in all that it holds for you! Melanie
