When you look around your physical space, what catches your eye? Is there something that you have been walking by again and again that is speaking to you but you have been ignoring it?
Close your eyes. Look around your internal landscape. What has been clamoring for your attention here? What feelings have you been pushing down? What conversation have you been avoiding? What dreams have you been ignoring?
Tending to the present moment is a powerful practice. And we do not have to go anywhere but right where we are.
When we tend to the present moment with care and mindfulness we put out a powerful message.
We care.
We care about our bodies. We care about our homes. We care about our relationship with the Divine. We care about our relationships. We care about how we do our work. We care about the messages we are giving ourselves and to others.
When we tend to things in a loving, caring fashion, we then experience being tended to in a loving caring fashion.
If we want something, it is always about making the shift internally first.
Only 100% of the time.
We can’t make anything happen our there that is real and lasting if we have not done our inner work.
We can force or manipulate but that is not real and it will take a great deal of effort to keep it that way.
So, this is an easy assignment. Choose one thing this week and tend to it as though it was the most precious and valuable thing in your life. Whether it is buying groceries, taking care of your lawn, having a conversation with a friend……….be very present. Act as though there was nothing else that you had to do but that in this very moment. Allow your energy to be saturated by that one and only moment.
See what happens. See how you feel about it at the end of the day and then the end of the week.
Tending to our lives makes sense. Then we know where we put our keys. We know we have healthy food to eat in the fridge. We know that we have time for work and time for play. We know we have time to spend with ourselves each day to reflect and deepen.
On the days I am struggling emotionally, I put my attention on tending to what is in front of me. That helps pull me back in the present moment and within a short period of time, I feel better.
That is it!
One more thing for you over achievers:) You will say, “I have 20 things in front of me!!!” Choose ONE! Perhaps it speaks a bit louder than the rest but if they all have an equal voice, just choose one………How you do one thing is how you do everything.
Much love! melaniej
