Sun is shining………..a lovely sight in November after many “gloomy” days here in MN.
I like to tend to my home as I do to my own body and my friendships. Some days I do a better job of it than others. That is OK. My energy nor my life is the same every day.
I do not have much self judgement around it.
But I do notice that the two areas of my home that consistently get less attention are my office and my bedroom. Rooms that I spend a lot of time in and are my most personal rooms. I like to clean up the kitchen before I go to bed so I awaken to clean dishes and counter but my desk usually has unfinished business spewed around it.
There is nothing horrible about this. But I like the energy of completion and I would like to develop the habit of clearing my desk at the end of the day. I would then have a fresh energy to greet me in the new day.
The other space is my bedroom. I usually make my bed and that feels good. But I often have a basket of clean, folded clothes that just need to be put into my drawers and there they can sit……..eventually accumulating clothes I have worn over the top!
Again, nothing so awful about this but there is something about me not taking care of these two spaces that I want to shift.
I started yesterday. Going through a pile of papers in my office, taking care of some odds and ends and this morning beginning to go through a pile of books by the side of my bed.
The progress feels good. I am ok just working on both projects a little each day. I have done enough de-cluttering over the years that I do not have that much to sort through and yet there is still something there for me to look at.
We start with looking at the larger issues in our lives and begin with the larger projects of de-cluttering. But the smaller issues and the smaller projects have something to teach us as well.
What is your area that you want to take up a notch this week? Just a few minutes each day to move things forward in a new direction. I am liking my progress. My challenge will be to maintain what I have achieved.
I can do that. More days than not. And the days that I do not? That is ok, as well.
My love to you, melaniej

Melanie, just want you to know that every morning I think of you when I make my bed. In class one day you mentioned “the practice of making your bed” every day. I started and I have delighted myself in climbing into a nicely made bed every night! BUT, almost every morning there’s some resistence, I have to “self-talk” myself into doing it. Why is it that something we know we really like and benefits us is always a struggle??? Even something as simple as making a bed!

Debbie,
I love it that you think of me each morning:) I will probably start to think of you each morning as well as I make MY bed!! And I am happy to say that I went to bed with a nice clear desk last night!
Why we resist the things that we enjoy? I think it is woven with our self value. If I or you knew someone was going to come into our bedroom we would quickly make our bed wanting it to look nice FOR THE OTHER person!! Why would we not value ourselves in the same way?
In Chakra Class we practice shifting from “I have to do……….” to “I choose to ………because…………..” When I know WHY i choose to do something, I do experience less resistance.
I love it when people comment so thank you!
