I am back! I was in Miami last week attending a 6 day Ashtanga workshop with teachers Kino and Tim. I thought I might find a computer and get a blog sent but it didn’t happen.
I was more nervous for this adventure than for anything I have done for a long time. Ashtanga is a demanding practice. I have had my toe in the Ashtanga practice for several years and now I would be practicing alongside devoted Ashtangis who practice 6 days a week. I had to keep reminding myself why I had signed up for this workshop. Because I was so nervous about it I knew that something really good would come out of it. I knew that it was so good for me to step OUT of my comfort zone and be lovingly pushed to see what more I could be experiencing in my yoga practice. I had been feeling dis-satisfied with my practice for awhile and I knew I needed some kind of boost.
A boost I did receive!! Kino and Tim lovingly and generously shared so much with the 11 of us in this workshop. My 10 classmates were completely supportive of me and each other as we worked at our own levels of competency. I was able to practice alongside those that are practicing the 2nd and 3rd series of the Ashtanga tradition. Deeply inspiring and motivating……….and I was very content to be working on the primary series:)
This is my first week home and my daily yoga practice is going well. It feels good to have a more focused approach to this part of my life. I needed to step out of my comfort zone to be challenged in a new way to be able to take it up a notch.
Where do you feel like you need to be challenged? Where does your life feel a bit unsatisfying? A class, a workshop, a vacation…….anything out of our normal comfort zone can help us shift to another level. The greater the discomfort the greater the shift…….I don’t really like to be moved out of my comfort zone! But those are the times I have grown the most…….
Enjoy the comfort of your life and allow some discomfort to shake things up every once in awhile:) much love, melanie
