Thinking of sunshine on this grey day! I have a student in my ashtanga prep class that is from British Columbia. She told me yesterday that they have about 300 cloudy, rainy, gloomy days a YEAR there!! That would NOT be for me!
I am getting back into the swing of things after spending 7 days in Hawaii…….so wonderful and restoring. But it has certainly taken me time to get my head back into my life here!
This morning I did some tapping with my “tapping buddy” from Canada. She wanted to work on “prioritizing” as she has so much going on right now and is feeling overwhelmed. Can you relate? Oh, by “tapping” I mean EFT, emotional freedom technique which you can “google”. We tapped on feelings of overwhelm, of losing herself in her business, on confusion, on not trusting the timing of the Universe etc. One of the questions that I asked her was “what are you getting out of keeping yourself SO busy?”
There are times when a lot of things may come “due” and we find ourselves a bit busier for a short period of time but then life settles back into a comfortable flow. If you have a pattern of ALWAYS being overwhelmed with too much on your plate, it is time to look at what you are getting out of it. Keeping yourself too busy is a great way to distract yourself from what is REALLY going on in your life. You may think that you have no control over how busy your life is, but who is saying “yes” to the things that fill your life? Overwhelm keeps us ungrounded and spinning.
If you feel that this is your pattern ask yourself this question…..”what am I getting out of staying so busy?” If you sit with this question, you will find the answer.
It takes some time to find the balance that feels good….a balance of work and free time. I need and love them both. We all have our own rhythms and we are the only ones that can seek and find the balance that works. I encourage you to begin to look more closely at how your days and weeks are set up. You may not have complete control over all parts of your days but what about the time that you do have control over. It may take some time to sort it out but you will enjoy your life so much more once you do! I will write more on priorities in the next blog! Stay tuned! much love, melanie
