Week 2 of getting back into the routine of writing my blog. It feels good.
I think I have shared this story before but it bears repeating:
There is an old Cherokee legend about a grandfather teaching his grandson an important life lesson. The grandfather explains to the young boy that we all have a battle going on inside of us. He said, “My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ that live inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’
The old Cherokee replied simply, “The one you feed.”
I was thinking of this in terms of Gold Coins. Lets say that each day you get a bag of Gold Coins. This bag never runs out of coins so you don’t have to worry about not having enough. But there are only 2 places you can “spend” your coins. One is the bucket of kindness, peace, love patience, etc. and the other is fear, doubt jealousy, anxiety etc.
With each thought or action you take you are putting your coin in one bucket or the other. There are no neutral thoughts or actions.
If you are working on an intention or have a desire to clear a fear and you work on it during your Daily Practice, you will have placed several gold coins into the bucket of self love. But that is not the whole story………….where are you then spending your coins the rest of the day? Do you allow your mind to run with the negative, fear based thoughts? At the end of the day, which bucket has more coins?
People will call me and ask if I can balance their energies in a Reiki session. I say that yes, that can be done. But again, that is just part of the story. If they leave and immediately begin to run their old programs of fear and lack, how long will they stay balanced?
This is a strong practice to take on. It takes staying mindful and not letting our thoughts run to the shadow side. If you have been working with some intention for a long time and not having success this might be the reason why.
We do not have to do it perfectly to make change. If we even begin to lean into a more positive direction, change will occur. If you are a perfectionist, don’t let yourself get freaked out about blips during the day. But stay mindful and shift back into gratitude, wonder and kindness as quickly as you can.
As always, I love to hear your comments! Much love, melaniej
