I just spent 4 days studying yoga at the Yoga House in the Edina with Tim Feldman. Inspirational, exhausting, transformational………I loved it.
If you know me well you will know that I am a real homebody. I love my home and I love to spend time here…….in the quiet, with music, my students or my friends. I receive a lot of satisfaction from taking care of my home and just being in the energy of it. It can be difficult to convince me to leave my comfortable surroundings:)
If you know me, you also know that I have the best job in the world! Teaching yoga, leading classes and workshops in transformation and growth………it’s the BEST! The students my work draws are typically motivated and ready for growth so it is exciting and rewarding for all of us.
There are times, however, when I am ready for “more”. I am a life long learner. I love to learn and study whatever it is I am interested in at the moment. I do a lot of it on my own but there is a time when finding a teacher is what I need.
There is value in both. When we study with someone, we get a lot of information and hopefully processes that we can take home and work with. The home time is than needed to really make the processes our own. Information is just that, information, until we take it into our own lives and work with it and have our own experience with it.
Mona once took a workshop and the instructor said, “how many of you have taken a workshop in the last few months?” Some raised their hands…….she then asked, ” Have you sucked every bit of juice out of that material? If you have not, you should not be here!”
There are workshop junkies. People who love to gather “information” but do not dive into the “experience” and the growth that is possible when you really “sit” with the material.
As always, there is a balance. A time for us to be in our normal routines deepening into the practices we are currently working with and a time for us to find a class or workshop or teacher to be newly inspired.
What time is it for you? I have a great deal to work with from just 4 days.
Much love! melanie
