December is a busy month for many people because of the Holidays. It is a time that can get frantic if you allow it.
There can be many expectations placed on you from past traditions. Some you may enjoy and some feel like obligations
.
Do you dare to get clear? Clear on what continues to work for you and clear on what feels empty and heavy. And do you have the courage to say “no” where you have always said “yes” or vice versa?
Sometimes once we sit down and really look at something we think we do not want to do, we can realize it has more value than we realized and with a shift in attitude it becomes enjoyable and satisfying once again.
But there are other events that year after year truly feel like an outworn shoe. It just does not “fit” anymore. You may not have even considered that you had a choice. Family tradition is strong in the Midwest and disappointing family members is never easy.
Get clear. What are you really feeling about this event? Could there be a tweak that would make it come alive and feel fun and authentic once again? Or is it really time that you stepped away from this and created something new?
Spend some time thinking about what is important for you this time of year. Typically it is about connection. That can be experienced in many ways. For some families it is getting together and making cookies, decorating the home, shopping together. Your family has it’s own unique take on the holidays.
As you have evolved and grown, how can that be reflected in your time with others?
Life always feels “simpler” when we are clear.
Rather than thinking about what you “have to do” before Christmas, think about what fills you with joy, what inspires you………..and do more of that.
Everyone will benefit from sharing authentic experiences that come from the heart.
Much love, melaniej
