This is a good question to stay connected to as we make decisions in our life. Many of us are very uncomfortable with open, quiet, free space and we will do almost anything to avoid that so we create “busyness”.
Why would you be uncomfortable with open space?
Because your feelings may bubble up to the surface. Thoughts that you have been trying to keep at bay may creep in. You begin to feel whatever it is you are truly feeling under the surface of your “busy” life. And if you allow yourself to feel and become deeply aware of what is truly going on inside, you may have to face something you don’t want to face. You may be asked to make decisions that you fear making…………even if it would be moving you toward a life you would be happier with!
Most of us fear change. EVEN if we are unhappy where we currently are, we would rather not have to face the truth of what that is…….and we just keep everything under the radar by staying “busy” and therefore distracted.
The busyness may be productive and even impressive……..but it is not the truth of what is underlying.
Interesting word, “underlying” as we so often “lie” to ourselves about what is “under” our “seen” lives….
Some reflections for you this week:
1. Look more carefully at where you are simply trying to fill in space.
2. Notice where you feel CONNECTED to the things you choose to do or when it just feels like BUSY work.
3. Begin to make choices to let go of the BUSY choices and develop more areas in your life where you feel CONNECTED.
4. Create or allow some quiet, open space for yourself and see if you are comfortable in it or if you want to crawl out of your skin.
5. What are the thoughts or feelings you are wanting to avoid?
6. What is the first step (even baby step) that you can take to start to shift?
That will be a good start!
Let me know what you discover. Much love and gratitude! melaniej
