Well, I continue to enjoy watching the Olympics in the evenings………now with the fastest man on the earth zooming across my screen!!
Gold, silver, bronze……….or no medal. An experience beyond their wildest dreams they all seem to say. All the work, the dedication and the sacrifice. A tremendous amount of energy being expended each day for weeks and months and years to get to this level.
We all have our goals and dreams that we strive for. There are times that we are inspired to put in the hours to move us forward toward the fulfillment of those dreams. But there is also the flip side. The time to take it slow. To take a break. To take a rest.
Last night I watched as two fabulous women gymnasts just lost their balance and fell in the beam routine. They have been performing night after night. I think they are exhausted. Mentally fatigued. How could they not be? Loss of balance shows up quickly with fatigue………
Luckily most of us do not have to deliver in such a way in front of billions of people. Hard to even imagine the pressure that must be aside from the pure physical effort.
So what is my point?
Balance
Balance as we move through our own precious days.
Balance between work and play, study and relaxation. Balance between time alone and time with others. Balance between movement and stillness.
I hope that within these athletes training lies a balance of deep restoration and time to just be when they return from their Olympic experience.
I often think of things within a mathematical equation…….if one gives deeply, one needs to receive deeply. Whether it is physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. If we do not, we feel depleted or suffer from resentment or burnout.
Take a look now at your own life and see if you have areas where you are not living in balance. It will show up as was stated above. Resentment, depletion, burnout. What would you need to do to establish more balance? Set boundaries? Create more time for your self? Simply give yourself permission?
We all win a gold when we live an honest life. When we do our best and then let go of the outcome. When we move through the world in a heart centered way. When we care about the world around us. When we take personal responsibility for our lives.
If you are pushing too hard for too long, take a break. If you have been lying on the couch for too long, get moving!
You know what you need to do to find the balance……….blessings, melaniej
