I recently watched the movie, “We Bought a Zoo”. I loved it and when I found out it was based on an actual true life story, I liked it even better!
There is a line in the movie that is very powerful. “You know, sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just literally 20 seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”

How many times have we known we needed to say something honest and true but we froze? How many times have we talked ourselves out of saying those words that we have rehearsed over and over in our mind? How many times has fear won and instead of moving forward we have swallowed those words, feelings, desires that are begging to be expressed?
Just 20 seconds of courage. There is another scene in the movie where the main character is walking by a coffee shop and sees this beautiful woman. He is so taken with her and knows if he just walks by, that moment and opportunity will be gone. You see him entering the shop repeating to himself, “Just 20 seconds of courage, just 20 seconds of courage.” So he approaches her, introduces himself and ………..the courage pays off in a very big way.
Where do you need this kind of courage in your life right now? This “insane courage” this “embarrassing courage”?
We are so afraid of looking foolish, being rejected, not having the words come out just right………a myriad of reasons of why we do not express that what we long to express.
20 seconds of courage. Let’s find somewhere in our life this week to use this mantra and see how great the result can be:)
